FMB Sketch Online: Download Tamil Nadu Land Map Free
An FMB sketch (Field Measurement Book sketch, புலப்படம்) is the survey department’s measured drawing of one survey number: its shape, side lengths, subdivisions and the survey numbers around it. You can download it free on eservices.tn.gov.in with the district, taluk, village, survey number and subdivision, plus an OTP to your mobile.

Open FMB Sketch on eservices.tn.gov.in
Downloading the sketch: five fields, then two clicks
On the portal’s home page, click “FMB Sketch – (Rural / Natham)”. The page that opens is titled View FMB.
- District, Taluk, Village. Pick them in order; each list fills after the one before it.
- Survey Number. Type only the main number.
- Sub Division Number. This field is mandatory. Pick it from the list. The portal’s own rule: for survey number 24/2, enter 24 in Survey Number and 2 in Sub Division Number; for survey number 24 with no subdivision, enter 24 and –.
- Mobile No (10 digit). Click “Get OTP” and enter the code you receive.
- Submit, then View FMB. The portal’s instruction is to click Submit first and then View FMB. After you submit, look for the View FMB button to open the sketch.
Save the sketch as soon as it opens. If you need several survey numbers, repeat the search for each one: every sketch covers a single survey number.
What the lines and numbers on an FMB sketch mean
An FMB sketch is drawn from the measurements taken when the village was surveyed. Read it in this order:
| On the sketch | What it tells you |
|---|---|
| The number in the centre | The survey number this sketch covers |
| Lines inside the field, with numbers or letters such as 2, 2A, 3B | Subdivisions of that survey number |
| Figures written along each side | The measured length of that side |
| Numbers written outside the outline | The survey numbers of the neighbouring fields |
| The north mark | Which way the field faces, so you can match it on the ground |
A sketch made before a recent split will not show the new subdivision lines. That is a common reason a buyer’s plot cannot be found on the drawing.
Four checks before you rely on an FMB
- Match the numbers. The survey and subdivision numbers on the FMB, on the patta and chitta and in the sale deed’s property schedule must be identical, character for character.
- Walk the land with the sketch. The shape and the side lengths on paper should match what you see on site. A side that is clearly shorter on the ground can mean an encroachment, or a boundary that was never fixed.
- Look at the neighbours. If an adjoining survey number is a road, channel or tank, the land beside it may be government land. The portal’s “Verify Government / Private (Poramboke) Land” tile shows how that neighbouring number is recorded.
- Remember what the FMB is not. It does not show ownership, loans or sales. Use it alongside the patta and the encumbrance certificate, and have a licensed surveyor measure the land if the boundary matters to the deal.
When the FMB does not match your land
Your plot is not drawn as a separate subdivision. The survey number was split on the ground or in a deed, but the split was never recorded. A new subdivision is created through a patta transfer: Tamil Nilam lists two kinds, with subdivision and without subdivision. See our guide to a transfer with subdivision.
The land is in a town. Town-surveyed land has no FMB under Rural / Natham. Use the “TSLR Sketch – Urban” tile instead, and read about urban land records.
Old papers show a village survey number, but the land is now in a town survey. The portal links two Correlation Statement files, computerised and scanned; their Tamil label (கிராமப்புற நகர்ப்புற தொடர்பு அறிக்கை) describes them as rural–urban correlation statements, matching village survey numbers to town survey numbers. When we checked on 26 October 2026, the computerised link opened a “404 – Page Not Found” page on tnlandsurvey.tn.gov.in. If it still fails, ask the taluk office for the correlation.
The search returns nothing. Check the taluk and village first, then the Sub Division Number. Entering 24/2 in one box, or leaving the subdivision empty instead of choosing –, are common slips.
F-Line sketch and statement
The “F-Line Sketch / Statement” tile is for people who have already applied for a field boundary measurement. It asks for the Application Id (format 0000/0000/00/000000) and an authentication value, a small sum shown on screen. It does not search by survey number, so a buyer without an application uses the FMB tile instead.
